I am running qmail with qmail-scanner, with tcpserver listening on the smtp
port, on a Redhat 7.1 system. i'm using antivir as the antivirus software.
I've been doing this successfully for a couple months. The machine it's
running on is allowed to accept mail from the world, but not to send mail
directly out to the world.

Things worked fine ntil yesterday. Yesterday, I added the following entry in
my /var/qmail/control/smtproutes:

:xxx.reeusda.gov

This entry was added because xxx is a machine that is allowed to process
outbound mail.

The following problem started. When a local machine wants to send an
outbound mail, and connects to my qmail server, the antivirus header gets
screwed up in the following manner:

.... <antivirus header> ...
registered user: Mcihael Martinez, Washington, DC ... hbdev:
sFrom: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

^^^^ You can see, that the "s" in front of the "From" is part of the header,
which is lopped off and appended in front of the From. The rest of the
header appears in the body of the email, as follows:

lnumber ... <rest of virus header>

Okay. The email actually makes it to the intended recipient. But since the
header is messed up the recipient's email reader does not recognize the
sender (thinks it's "none" or "UnknownSender") and as I said above half the
mail header appears in the body of the email.

Now, this problem occurs only in the case of outbound relayed mail that has
to pass through the "xxx.reeusda.gov" entry in the smtproutes. It does not
occur with locally delivered mail, or with mail that is forwarded to the
other entries in "smtproutes" which contain forwarding rules for those
domains listed in my "/var/qmail/control/rcpthosts" and "locals."

i hope I've been able to explain this well. Anybody got a clue?
