DNS & /etc/hosts

Surely you mean that qmail uses the resolver, who in turn may use the
DNS ?  Or does qmail make direct DNS requests ?

Because this is quite different, the resolver may be configured to
look at /etc/hosts first and then use the DNS if it doesn't find an
answer.

Anyone ?
