I tried to telnet to port 25 on serware.swi.hu (the mail exchanger for swi.hu),
and I wasn't able to establish an SMTP connection either. The error message
means exactly what it says.

Either serware.swi.hu is down or some link upstream of it is broken.

Chris

Because I refuse to put an NT machine into production. Stability is a
premium. When they finally release LSMTP for Solaris, I'll probably switch
(since that's pretty much all that machine's MTA does).

Hi.

I'm curious, why do you guys use qmail with ListServ, and not LSMTP?
Specifically, did you find qmail to be faster?

David.

I installed checkpassword-0.81 with the pam diffs and it takes a good 10
seconds for it to authenticate and checkpassword is ALWAYS maxed at 100%
cpu. I've tried copying a checkpassword bin from another working qmail box
and it still starts to max out at 100%
I'm running qpop3d under inetd.
Any ideas?

checkpassword-0.81 with pam mods seems not to be able to handle a shadow
passwd file over a certain amount of users. Mine has about 4000 users and it
takes a year for it to find the passwd. Any ideas on what I can do to get
rid of this problem?

We maintain a linux mailserver that uses PAM and Shadow and has about
4000 users. We have had no problems with checkpassword-0.81.

The problem must be somewhere else.

BTW when you compiled checkpasswd did you change the encrypt function in
the Makefile to -lcrypt? That is necessary for linux.

It helps to do a make -lcrypt in checkpassword-0.81

Damn this is fast now!!!!!!!!!

Has anyone used this Vchkpw on Qmail with 40 - 60 thousand users? I am
concerned that the vpasswd file is too slow for that many users. Anyone
ever had it use Radius (Served by a SQL Server)?

Here is our proposed config:

5 POP3 Servers
3 SMTP Servers
1 Central Storage Server w/Backup

 (P) (P) (P) (P) (P)
   \ \ | / /
       \ \ | / /
           \ \|/ /
        (Storage) NFS
           / | \
         / | \
(S) (S) (S)

I would appreciate any and all input you folks can offer.

yup, works just fine for us here. dunno exactly how well it scales, ours
is only about 10k users total, but we've been running this system (auth via
Radius) since about 4k users and haven't ever had any performance problems.

Very odd. I just added "rocket.scientist" to my alias list and
now I receive mail to both rocket.scientist and rocket-scientist just
fine. Can you quote to me the excerpt from your /etc/aliases file wherein
you've got these aliases? Mine looks like this:

rocket-scientist:jdyson
rocket.scientist:jdyson
