I just discovered that if you are using the LWQ qmail rc script with RHL 6.1, you need to add the following lines: to the "start" section: touch /var/lock/subsys/qmail to the "stop" section: rm -f /var/lock/subsys/qmail Otherwise, qmail will not be properly shut down; the main rc script looks for the lock file before it cans a "subsystem". Note that I arbitrarily chose "qmail" as the name of the lock file, but it seems a logical choice. I dunno how this relates, if at all, to other Linux distros.
