Hello,
I just browsed through my qmail logs and noticed, that I get a lot of
deferrals: CNAME lookups are temporary unavaible (#4.4.3). Does anybody know
how to solve this problem, as qmail just puts all of the mails it couldn't
deliver into the queue and if let it do the queue, it just returns me the
same errors. Is this a problem of the local DNS servers or of the
authoritive ones? Is there a possibility to let qmail just deliver the mail
to the mx records without caring if it's a CNAME or a real address?

Can anyone recommend an email client for Macs that it is qmail compatible?
I don't appear to be having any success trying to get my mail with Eudora.

Best regards,
David

qmail? You mean qmail-pop3d?

ANY POP3 RFC 1939 (http://rfc1939.x42.com/) compliant client works.

If you user strange characters in your password, maybe your client does send
them differently from how it was set.

Eudora on a Mac works fine with qmail-pop3d. (I'm using Eurora on a
Mac right now, but I've long since switched to courier-imap to
retrieve mail.) You're going to have to tell us what's exactly is
going wrong. Eudora has a mode to log every byte sent in and out
during a connection. (In Special->Settings->Logging.) Turn it on and
see what's happening.

im not sure how I should patch the pine 4.10 source so that it handles
Maildir delivery. I have downloaded the pine4.10-redhat.patch from
ftp://ftp.vestdata.no/pub/linux/c-client/src-1.0/
but I am not sure how to execute the patch so that it modifies the source
files to handle Maildir delivery.

anyone have any experience with this?

In case you have not seen it: the new rblsmtpd (in the ucspi-tcp
package!) has:

Options:
     * -r base: Use base as an RBL source. An IP address a.b.c.d is
listed by that source if d.c.b.a.base has a TXT
       record. rblsmtpd
uses the contents of the TXT record as an error message for the
       client.
     * -a base: Use base as an anti-RBL source. An IP address a.b.c.d
     is
anti-listed by that source if d.c.b.a.base has an A record. In
this case rblsmtpd does not block mail.

You may supply any number of -r and -a options. rblsmtpd tries each
source in turn until it finds one that lists or anti-lists
   $TCPREMOTEIP.

(Sorry for polluting).

Mate

A new version of ucspi-tcp, including a new version of rblsmtpd, is
available through

   http://cr.yp.to/ucspi-tcp/install.html

There are a huge number of internal improvements and some external
improvements. See

   http://cr.yp.to/ucspi-tcp/upgrade.html

for upgrade notes.

How do I block unqualified remote senders?
I know an empty return-path (<>)should be allowed. :-(

I use qmail-1.03 with rblsmtpd + qmail-1.03-mfcheck.3.patch.

I get bounces like this in my postmaster maildir:

Return-Path: <WealthNet2000>
Received: (qmail 58006 invoked from network); 10 Mar 2000 14:42:36 -0000

which has a smarter mail host:
