I have been configuring qmail on a number of servers. Some hours after the initial bringup of the server, qmail-send exits mysteriously, printing nothing to the log, but is no longer running. Fortunately I have a monitoring script which sends e-mail through the boxes to check whether they're up. It notices this and sends me an alert. I restart the daemon, and I don't seem to have the problem again. (at least not in the weeks since they were brought up) This has happened on all four of the servers in virtually the exact same way... Mysterious, indeed...
