AFAIK, vmailmgr supports MD5 passwords, so probably passwords which
are longer than 8 chars.

The .qmail, no, but you cann add forwarders to vmailmgr accounts with
the vchforwarders command.

well, that's the vpopmail or vmailmgr which will do that : you don't
have to create the directory by yourself...
