Tim,
Attached is the results on a qmail-showctl. Also, I was just going some
of my logs in /var/log/qmail/qmail-smtp/current and I came up with megs and
megs of entries that looked just like this:
@400000003a5f95640cc5d814 tcpserver: fatal: unable to bind: address already
used
@400000003a5f956422810fac tcpserver: fatal: unable to bind: address already
used
I have uncommented a line from my /etc/inetd.conf file and I am hopping that
that will do the trick, as from what it looks like, the system is able to
receive mail, but sending out was being blocked off because I might have
been initializing the port to soon. If this is the case, it might make some
of my other issues a little simpler to diagnose-
(this is the line I just uncommented:
#env - PATH="/var/qmail/bin:/usr/local/bin" \
# tcpserver -H -R 0 pop-3 \
# /var/qmail/bin/qmail-popup www.worldvibe.org \
# /home/vpopmail/bin/vchkpw /var/qmail/bin/qmail-pop3d Maildir &
)
After checking further into it (and a kill -HUP). I found out it does not
affect the server in anyway, so I figure it has to be something else. A ps
reveals (excerpt):
root 542 0.0 1.4 1220 448 ? S 15:59 0:00 svscan
/service
root 545 1.8 1.4 1184 432 ? S 15:59 0:04 supervise

root 3744 0.0 1.2 1904 368 ? R 16:03 0:00 sh ./run
What I believe is happening is tcpserver is trying to open up the port for
qmail, as it is told by daemontools (supervise), the port is already in use
by something else.. (but what? And which port again?) and bails. Thus
writing a single line into a log file every few seconds.
Qmail itself does seem to be operating correctly, however, the qmail-pop3d
daemon is not running.
Also, according to the boot.log, qmail is starting correctly:
Jan 12 15:59:49 www httpd: httpd startup succeeded
Jan 12 15:59:50 www rc: Starting sshd succeeded
Jan 12 15:59:57 www xfs: xfs startup succeeded
Jan 12 15:59:57 www qmail: Starting qmail:
Jan 12 15:59:57 www qmail:
Jan 12 15:59:57 www rc: Starting qmail succeeded
Any ideas on where to start looking? And what to start looking for?
BTW: excerpt of the maillog is included for the triple bounce item.
Cheers,
Sean
