Normally, that error message would include
the directory name for the domain. For some reason, vpopmail is failing
to return the correct directory (it's empty).
What does the entry (for the domain in question) in users/assign
look like? Does it include the proper directory name for the
domain?

Good advice Tom,
ok the domain is "projecthugo.co.uk" although
this appears to be happening on all domains
the assign file contains this entry for
projecthugo (the others look practially the same too though)
+projecthugo.co.uk-:projecthugo.co.uk:89:89:/home/vpopmail/domains/projecthugo.co.uk:-::
UID and GID 89 looks like this in /etc/passwd
and /etc/group
vpopmail:x:89:89:Vpopmail:/home/vpopmail:/bin/false
vchkpw:x:89:
so no problems there
The domain
/home/vpopmail/domains/projecthugo.co.uk looks good too.
ls -la

no problems there then.
Any other suggestions ?
Thanks,
Matt.
Any other input ?
Ok guys, I have reinstalled vpopmail - and
tested the domain functions adding / deleting / users etc etc, on the
command line - all is well. I can do admin functions with vqadmin. I have
re-installed qmailadmin and I still get the problem "Could not change
directory".
I am no further to debugging this and I am
running out of options.
I have no idea why this just stopped working.
Something must have changed but I can't figure out what.
I am open to any suggestions now
???
Thanks,
MAtt.
