I think you mean enabling/disabling the presence of the "Spam Detection?"
checkbox.

The instructions on the page you reference above disagree with the
instructions in the qmailadmin-1.2.8 INSTALL file that I followed.

The instructions you quoted indicate this qmailadmin config option:

    --enable-spam-modify

whereas the INSTALL file I followed indicates instead:

    --enable-modify-spam=Y

It does not require mysql.  I also don't use mysql.
