rpm wouldn't complain of sendmail were installed by hand. If you're having problems where sendmail is not installed, yet will not remove, then you probably have a corrupt rpm database.
If you're hosed this early on, you might want to reinstall the OS, perhaps following the information from the EZ Toaster Install. Erik On 4/21/06, Gal A.
