Hey Nick/Erik,
I just upgraded to clamav-toaster-0.88.3-1.3.2 on my 'test' box, and I
notice that /var/run/clamav has root:root for owner.
Shouldn't the binary rpm take care of doing a
# chown clamav:clamav /var/run/clamav ?
The /var/log/clamav directory is that way.

That being said, I see that /var/log/clamav directory has owner:group
clamav:clamav. I'd also do:
# chown clamav:clamav /var/run/clamav
That should do it.
