Well it removes sendmail and since mdadm depends on mail-client then it wipes off mdadm also. You could remove sendmail with --dodeps option or after installing qmail reinstall mdadm (since qmail provides mail-client dependency) . As far as I know mdadm is only utility for managing raid devices and software raid will function without it.

I bet many of us (including me) run mailservers on software raid.
