I'm wondering about the same thing.

A product called splunk that has a free version claims to do just what you 
describe:

I have it installed and running on a machine without qmail-toaster, and it 
works as advertised very well. Basically you just add data points to it and it 
will start indexing the data for you:

/opt/splunk/bin/splunk add tail /var/log/maillog

But I'm not sure how/where to find the relevant logs created by the install of 
qmail-toaster.

Perhaps if someone could identify the logs for us then I'll set up splunk on my 
qmail-toaster dev machine and then I'll put up on the wiki instructions for 
tracing an email through the system.

  I have done some poking and testing... But would love to hear the whole 1-2-3 
 from someone who really knows.
