All,
I noticed an increase in uri-type spam on one of my toasters for the
past month or two. I was pretty sure I set up SURBL on my toaster
roll-out, so I investigated.
I am on spamassassin-toaster-3.2.4-1.3.13 version. Apparently, in the
course of upgrading up to 3.2.4 (manually, because of perl dependencies
on C4.x), an rpmsave file was created. This was probably a direct
result of just 'me, being me', so you might not be affected. I do not
spend any significant time doing administrative tasks that would have
caught this change, obviously, like checking for rpmsave files and doing
a diff.
According to the wiki, which I helped document, we are loading plugins
from the v310.pre file...that was an arbitrary, unresearched choice.
From reading somewhere, possibly in the other pre files, spamassassin
reads all pre files in /etc/mail/spamassassin, so I created a local.pre,
added the plugin line, and qmail-spam stop/started, and SURBL is working
again.
The gist is: if you customize the plugins for spamassassin (uridnsrbl,
pyzor, razor, etc.). do it in a local.pre file so that future SA
upgrades will not wipe out your work. For the advanced-types who read
this...you prolly already knew this. For the fledgling-types like me,
here is a 'heads-up'. I'm off to the wiki...
regards,
fuzzy
