If you'd've simply not selected it, you'd've gotten no errors. ;)

I'd like to nail this one (once again, so it seems).

You say this is the version you're running. Please post the results of:
# rpm -q zlib
# yum info zlib
That might give me a clue as to what's going on with your toaster.
