Helmut,

Thanks, the submission port works great!

Seems likely it may be the standard ISP ploy of not allowing smtp on port 25
so they can control email going out of their domain. I would (and do) use
submission port and see if that works for you. Hope that helps.

P.S. It seems their play did not work too well if they are blacklisted!
Maybe someone reported them for sending out their adverts! :)

Eric S.,

I may be wrong about an intermediary server, but I 'deduced' that there was
an intermediary because of different phone settings I tried. I have the
Toaster set up with TLS and authentication. When the cell phone users sets
up TLS connection with 'server' the 'server' replies "TLS is not set up on
the server." I also have the server set up for SMTP authentication. When the
cell phone users set up authentication with the 'server' the 'server'
replies, "Authentication not set up on the server." I must note now that on
a P.C. using outlook these setting work fine. So, when the cell phone users
remove authentication and TLS, the Qmail Toaster SMTP log yields the
following message:

@400000004bd5b01817238fa4 tcpserver: status: 1/100 @400000004bd5b0181724dbac
tcpserver: pid 28673 from 70.198.221.51
@400000004bd5b0181727ae54 tcpserver: ok 28673
poweredgeT1052.whitehorsetc.com:192.168.9.2:25 :70.198.221.51::33650
@400000004bd5b018174f3f3c rblsmtpd: 70.198.221.51 pid 28673: 451
http://www.spamhaus.org/query/bl?ip=70.198.221.51
@400000004bd5b01918b6d204 tcpserver: end 28673 status 0
@400000004bd5b01918b6e1a4 tcpserver: status: 0/100

Doing a whois 70.198.221.51 yields SprintPC.

After clearing the blacklist file of '-r zen.spamhaus.org' I can receive
email from the cell phone. I was wondering if there were a way to leave
zen.spamhaus.org in the blacklist file and allow relay from the Sprint IP
address.

If there's an intermediary server, then they're not using their QMT as the
outgoing server. Email would only reach the QMT host if the message was
destined to a domain on the QMT host. It this correct? If not, then I'm not
understanding the problem correctly.

If you're not using spamdyke, I don't know of a way around this problem.

If you're using spamdyke, you can whitelist the Verizon and Sprint servers
(I would whitelist their rDNS names) to bypass RBL (as well as all other)
filters.
