It is pretty straightforward.

Fail2ban should work out of the box once you enable the particular services
you want watched.  It did on my system - I enabled sshd.  The documentation
is pretty straightforward and it is easy to do.

Logwatch was the same way - very easy, works out of the box for standard
services.

1. enable RPMforge repository
(http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories/RPMForge)
2. `sudo yum install logwatch fail2ban`
3. read documentation
