I’m not here to show advantage or benefits of other mail server on the
list, but as a old user of qmailtoaster how can we upgrade our toaster
with the new features. It also has many features like preventing
outgoing mail from different domain with authentication from domain on
server (just like gmail) and many other features.

Eric, As a new leader of qmailtoaster, I would appreciate if you check
out with new upgrades and features to qmailtoaster. I had been very less
active on list from last few months, but I never missed to read mails
whenever I get time and post. I’m ready to help whatever possible from
my side.

Greetings Amit.

Thank you for pointing out indimail. I've taken a cursory look at it, and my thinking about it (and perhaps some other things) follows.

In leading QMT forward, consideration of the community base will be important, and requires an understanding of that base. I wrote a piece about this on one of the QMT lists several years back but can't seem to locate it now.

In a nutshell, I wrote that we have 2 basic types of installations of QMT. The first is the small appliance type installation, which services one to a handful of domains. This is the primary and foremost type of installation in my mind, as it's consistent with the original project objective.

The second is the Mail Service Provider (MSP) type of installation, which tends to be much larger. While the MSP installations were not a part of the original project objective, they have become a natural and substantial part of the community.

While the two types of installations each present their own set of challenges, QMT has been able to successfully satisfy most of the needs of both types. My intension is to lead QMT in a direction that continues to meet the needs of both types of installations. This will be done by changing QMT in such a way that its components are more loosely coupled and more highly cohesive. This will allow for more effective utilization of virtualization technologies, which will provide benefits to both types of installations.

That being said, I don't think my role includes searching out features that *I* think people need or might want. That's something which is up to you, the community. If you have a problem that a change to QMT would help to alleviate, please create an enhancement ticket explaining the situation. Tickets are not just for bug reports, but are also *the* way to initiate changes. While I expect we might be using a different ticket system (Trac) in the not too distant future, everyone should feel free to create enhancement tickets using the present system at http://bugs.qmailtoaster.com/.

Regarding indimail's "better and faster delivery", I would ask "better and faster than what?". Is your QMT installation suffering in this regard? To be honest, I doubt that this is a big problem for many (if any) QMT installations.

My general impression of indimail is that it's suited toward very large enterprise type installations. While I do hope that QMT will eventually acquire certain "enterprisey" features (such as AD/LDAP integration), I don't expect to see the distributed domain capability (hostcntrl) or queue collection (qmail-multi) feature implemented in QMT. If anyone has a need in this area though, I would hope that they'd ask for it. My expectations don't determine what's needed or not.

If there's a specific feature that you want to see in QMT, create a ticket for it, and it will be addressed in due time. There will of course be no guarantees when or if any particular change will be implemented. We'll all do our best though.

As always, your help with the project is appreciated. This is a community project, and everything that is done is a result of community participation. My thanks to everyone involved.
