Hello, My two cents...
QMail strength used to be its modular approach. Meaning that you can use almost any other tool to, example, make POP / IMAP available or SPAM filtering. But in this days postfix, for example, have almost the same approach (maybe postfix have some more built-in functions compared to QMail, maybe more monolithic approach) and so much more supported, much more availability and much more documented and shared used cases around the internet. That my perception of have changed from qmailtoaster to postfix. And maybe quicker first response, related to SMTP connections. But just that: more modern code, more documentation, more internet information / "how to do" examples. In the end the two make their job well :-) Greetings, Pedro Estevão -----Original Message----- From: Angus McIntyre <[email protected]> Sent: 23 de fevereiro de 2025 12:14 To: [email protected] Subject: [qmailtoaster] qmailtoaster - why? This is a genuine question, and not intended as a provocation: why do you use qmailtoaster, and why do you choose a qmail-based solution over a stack based on, say, postfix or another MTA? I ask because I'm reaching the point where I need to rebuild my own main server (I backed the wrong horse, building a deployment strategy based on CentOS 8 that I finally perfected about 3 months before RedHat brought the axe down). Options include staying with qmailtoaster -- which, after more than 15 years of using it, I know pretty well -- or looking for a stack based on more actively-maintained software. So my question is, what do qmail and qmailtoaster offer that alternatives don't? What are the things that keep you coming back to qmail/qmailtoaster? I'm particularly interested in hearing the opinions of people who've tried alternatives. (I realize that anyone who tried an alternative and liked it better probably isn't on this list any more ... but that's fine: I want to know what people here see as the unique strengths of qmail and qmailtoaster) Thank you in advance, and my apologies if this kind of 'meta' question isn't appropriate for this list.
