Just as a frame of reference, I'm becoming pretty familiar with the code, but
I'm not sure, given the problem Bob was having, that I would have realized
that those two bugs were related.  Bug 42, with the word "appearance", might
have rung a bell for me, but more likely I would have missed that too.  This
is where your (Sebastian) expertise comes in, merging bugs that are related,
when the OP doesn't realize such.  Those of us watching the bugs list will
then learn more about what's related to what.  (I've been studying Widget.js
for how the queues work, and I now know I need to go study the specifics of
properties in relation to appearance.  Once I know this stuff better, I'll be
in a better position to offer suggestions to people.)

Bob, maybe you could add a comment to bug 42 about the specifics of your
issue: that setColor() and other user-specified styles should supersede the
appearance deduced from the loaded theme or previously specified appearance.
