I have not yet moved my code past .6.2 as we have a running app that I am
not yet in a position to upgrade it. I will check it out though to see if I
can borrow some of the code to help me out.

Jim, have you looked at qx.ui.treevirtual.* ? It puts the open/close
button
for the tree branch in a cell and not only makes it clickable, but
determines
specifically whether you have clicked on the icon or someplace else in the
cell.
