Thanks for the pointer. My table model accesses it's data from an array of objects - maintained by another class I've written. My tablemodel class now descends from AbstractTableModel and reimplements the row handling functionality. Thanks to the architecture of qooxdoo, this was easy to do once I understood the role played by each class.
