Qooxdoo isn't really usable in production without the generator, IMO. Qooxdoo consists of hundreds of files. We do use the source version on the server for debugging. It loads slow as hell. The build version loads in less than 2s, the source version takes maybe 15s or more, upon every reload. A single-file, non-compressed version of the framework sources would be useful, though, for debugging.
One more note, on the caching behavior of some browsers on source version files: it's not a qooxdoo problem. If you use a proper browser with proper configuration, you don't have the problem, not even with breakpoints getting lost. At least that's what we found out using Opera and Chrome (oddly enough, these are two less used browsers, but still, both IE and FF have huge problems when debugging web apps - IE's debugger hangs quite often, and misses breakpoints a lot, FF has bad caching problems, not just with qooxdoo files, and Firebug sometimes fails to attach to browser windows (or used to, at least) whereas Chrome has an excellent debugger, but still has a tiny caching problem, and Opera has absolutely no caching problem, plus some unique debugging facilities, but not that nice a script browser as Chrome). flj ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ThinkGeek and WIRED's GeekDad team up for the Ultimate GeekDad Father's Day Giveaway.
