A related question - which event can I listen to for when an listitem is 
selected in the combo box ? I can't see a distinct one other than 
changeValue

Hey,
you can listen to the changeValue event on the combo box but you have to 
tell the textfield of the combobox to update its value live:

combobox.getChildControl("textfield").setLiveUpdate(true);

That should give you a changeValue event on every keypress.
