Hi Dietrich,

the goal of the "diet" branch is to improve the qx.ui layer's 
performance by reducing the number of DOM elements and their JS 
representations. As you know, currently every widget consists of at 
least three elements (container, content and decorator). Diet reduces 
this to only one element, at the expense of losing some theming features 
in older browsers and dropping support for IE 6 and 7.

Of course this means existing API will be broken and custom themes will 
require some manual migration steps, so this will very probably be a 
major (3.0) qooxdoo release.

Just today we've reached a point where things are stable enough to begin 
serious testing, so there should be a blog post about the changes quite 
soon.
