Obviously, there are many ways to factor Python code, and you won't
be the only Python programmer to use decorators, so I don't think you
need worry about becoming obsolescent.
The proposed template decorator notation "@[xml]" and "@[str]" is
implemented in the development tree now and we're expecting to
include it in the next release of QPY and QP. I don't know if
that makes the use of other decorators more or less attractive,
but you should be aware of it.
