Adam Reichold posted a new comment: Hello, Whether the error is flawed depends on which packages you have installed: If you have "libxml2" but not "libxml2-dev" installed then the error is correct. Most library packages ship the files necessary for development (headers, pkg-config definitions) in separate packages ending on "-dev". Since calling "./configure" implies you try to build from source you would not a lot of those "-dev" packages as well. But as Benjamin said, the next version of Ubuntu, i.e. 12.10, which will be released this month does ship Poppler 0.20.x and hence you could just wait some more for this to happen. As the Poppler library is on quite a low level in desktop stack, this would probably save you a lot of trouble.
