Hello abssorb,
this should definitely be possible. Please have a loot at the
"Modifiers" tab of settings dialog. The default mouse wheel modifier for
scaling should be Control but you can choose another one if you prefer.
(Note that choosing "None" means that zooming by mouse wheel is
disabled.)
