M4-alpha

I've created an M4-alpha release from svn revision 714267. You can find

Please have at it.

I'm going to be a bit scarce next week, but I should be able to make a 
new release if there are any egregious problems. Otherwise, I'd like to 
make a beta on the 25th, and hopefully have a final RC the first week of 
December.
