Thanks for the feedback! I know that somehow it intercepts the email for scanning but I'm not sure if this happens at the sockets level. The settings are still pointing to the email server in this case. I have an update: stupid user, I asked him to turn off the virus scanner and then try it. He said he did and it did not work. Well, it turns out he only disabled it but did not turn it off. Of course, when I finally turned it off, the problem went away. Moral of the story: never trust an end user!!! Thanks!
