Three suggestions: One - read the configure output and see if you can figure out where it decides you want Kerberos. Two - make clean and try configure --enable-specialauth, though normally it's not needed. Three - if that doesn't fly, make clean again and try configure --with-pam=pop3 if your system is using PAM (pluggable authentication modules.)
