problem with xinetd.d

I have just installed qpopper4.0.5 on a Mac running OS 10.3.7 
(Panther). I did the installation with Darwinports. After 
installation I sent a HUP signal to xinetd and got the following in 
my system log ...

Jan 28 11:45:30 localhost xinetd[390]: Starting reconfiguration
Jan 28 11:45:30 localhost xinetd[390]: service:pop3 id:pop3 not 
unique or is a duplicate - DISABLING
Jan 28 11:45:30 localhost xinetd[390]: readjusting service ftp
Jan 28 11:45:30 localhost xinetd[390]: readjusting service pop3
Jan 28 11:45:30 localhost xinetd[390]: readjusting service ssh
Jan 28 11:45:30 localhost xinetd[390]: Reconfigured: new=0 old=3 
dropped=0 (services)

I'm not sure what the id:pop3 not unique is. None the less, I cannot 
telnet to myself.host pop3. I get a connection refused, Unable to 
connect. Thanks for any help. Jim
