Oh as far as I can make out we just support multiple smtproutes and do some nicer ramp-up algorithms than qmail-remote does (like postfix does). We could probably share the former but not the latter.


From running lists I generally have many more outgoing mails than
incoming, so I would worry about the extra overhead for a
qmail-remote replacement.

That was one of my concerns too. As were your other concerns. I'm not going to dive into it - as I have no need for it. It occured to me that it might be neat to do it in POE though and use it's threading model...
