For those that don't need UTF support.
New versions of Redhat come with the file:
/etc/sysconfig/i18n
set to enable UTF support system wide.
Some software can have a problem with this.
Symptoms can include man pages that don't display correctly,
or perl programs that don't do as you expect.
To turn it off replace the contents of this file with something like:
LANG="en_US"
SUPPORTED="en_US"
SYSFONT="lat1-16"
