I just tried to see if it's possible to feed an incoming message directly to the LMTP socket of the cyrus IMAP daemon. This is the result :)
That's really funny! I was just starting to work on something similar, except I was going to use Net::LMTP, instead of rolling my own. And I have an actual use - dspam 3.4 includes LMTP in and out, so I could do this:
qpsmtpd ===LMTP==> dspam ===LMTP==> qmail-queue
I'm going to write a simple LMTP server (using Net::Server::Mail::LMTP) to dump the messages into qmail-queue.

cyrus scales, can tls, ldap for admin. somebody will want lmtp to cyrus
cyrus drac.db can dump, so I can crudely bring IP's over to tcpserver to set RELAYCLIENT for smtp-after-pop. I can use relay-ctrl-age to age the pop IP's outside of cyrus, between cyrus and tcpserver's smtp.rules. lmtp to cyrus, tinyldap to saslauthd.
perl for dracd and smtp-after-pop?
