I meant "at the beginning of use of qpsmtpd at a site" not at the beginning of a session or a connection. Automating the sysadmin task. Annual (or more or less often) rebuilding could be accomplished by deleting (or moving) the cert file.
You could use the maildir style of putting in place, then renaming it, to avoid collisions. That would not break ongoing tls conversations.
