It's worth noting that this has only been used with forkserver, and could very well have problems with the other use patterns. It implicitly depends on there being a per-connection hook dispatch table, which comes for free with forkserver. If people still think the idea is "really neat" as Ask did in 2006, we'd need to think a little more about implementation.
