Well, I was living in Panama City FL in 1969 when Camille came through.
We were taken by helicopter to Biloxi after the storm to do Emergency
communications. I don't know how we got along without Winlink, but we
did. I was in Gulfport/Pascagaula for 3 days. USAF even gave me the time
with no argument(I was an Instructor at Tyndall AFB).
Saw many concrete "hurricane proof" building absolutely GONE. It appears
Katrina will be even more powerful.
