Col,

Embarcadero Delphi <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embarcadero_Delphi> (formerly
CodeGear Delphi and Borland Delphi) developed Delphi and was acquired by
Borland initially and has again split off from Borland. It is now the
successor of Borland Pascal <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borland_Pascal>
and Turbo Pascal <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbo_Pascal> product line.
It encompasses Win16
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_API#Versions> (Delphi
1), Win32 <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_API#Versions> (Delphi 2 and
later), and the .NET 1.x, 2.0
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.NET_Framework> (Delphi
8, Delphi 2005–Delphi 2007). Support for .NET is a separate product known as
Oxygene.

Delphi XE is the most recent version and is distributed in four different
editions: Starter, Professional, Enterprise and Architect

On Embarcadero website:
 Free Delphi Earlier Versions

Buy Delphi XE and get earlier versions 7, 2007, 2009 and 2010 at no extra
charge <http://www.embarcadero.com/products/delphi/previous-versions>

They do have free trials and beta programs but no obvious support for
education or support for pre Version 7.

On September 6, 2006 The Developer Tools Group (the working name of the not
yet spun off company) of Borland Software Corporation released
single-language versions of Borland Developer Studio, bringing back the
popular *Turbo* name. The Turbo product set includes Turbo Delphi for Win32,
Turbo Delphi for .NET, Turbo C++, and Turbo C#. Each version available in
two editions: *Explorer*—a free downloadable version—and *Professional*
*
*
So Explorer versions of Delphi 6 should still be available for use.
 Brothersoft http://www.brothersoft.com/downloads/delphi-programming.htmlstill
lists downloads for previous versions, including verions 6 and states
it is free, but unfortunately it links back to
https://downloads.embarcadero.com/free/delphi which is a free trial of XE

However a bit of exploration and it does seem to still exist at Embarcadero
http://software-files-l.cnet.com/s/software/10/99/80/93/download_delphi.html?e=1300699551&h=e48eac4c2e873a2beb61c77f71bef914&lop=link&ptype=1900&ontid=2212&siteId=4&edId=3&spi=cdb3ddecc912a434e42f041405062119&pid=10998093&psid=10038359&fileName=download_delphi.htmlbut
access to the files is not available.

"Turbo Delphi 2006, Turbo C++ 2006, and JBuilder Turbo 2008 are no longer
available. You can download a free 30-day trial version of the latest
Delphi, C++Builder, and JBuilder products and learn more about them using
the links below.

Any user who previously downloaded one of these older Turbo products and
needs to find their serial number to reinstall can do so at Member
Services<https://members.embarcadero.com/> by
choosing My Registered Products.

*Educational Usage:* Embarcadero offers academic discounts on products for
educational use including individual licenses, lab licenses, and academic
site licenses. Please contact your Embarcadero representative for details
and pricing. If you have a class planned for the current term that requires
a Turbo product, and you can’t change to the latest version, please contact
your Embarcadero
representative<http://www.embarcadero.com/company/contact-us> for
assistance." http://turboexplorer.com/downloads

While it may exist elsewhere in the wild, obvious links from C-Net,
Brothersoft etc. only point back to links within Embarcadero and they have
closed off access to these or redirected them to their current trial.

You could try contacting them directly and see how you go, or find someone
with the CD or files to share. While there are still a lot of references to
version 6 being free, how that may now be interpreted by Embarcadero and
more importantly IT managers without current documentation verifying this
could be interesting,

regards
Jason
