I suggested that but she said she wanted the creative features and the
ability to customize it beyond what elearn offers. She has also outlined
that the students do not use any personal or school email addresses to
access the site and as the unit is based on creating avatars no personal
information of the students is placed on the site.

Subject: RE: [qsiteict] Drama request from teacher

G'day Jeff
A virtual classroom hosted on eLearn wouldn't do the job? The teacher would
be able to setup a wiki that would allow students to create profiles (a new
wiki page for each profile) and upload their files to that page. It would
still allow others to comment on the wiki page (like writing on a facebook
wall), but would all be protected within EQ space. You could further enhance
it with blogs and other activities within the unit, all in a one stop shop.

It might not be quite as 'elegant' as a proper profile on a social
networking site, but it is a lot safer and easier to administer within our
own system.

Happy to provide any further elaboration if needed; hope it helps! :)
Cheers
Tony

Subject: [qsiteict] Drama request from teacher

I have had a request from a Drama teacher at school who has asked the
followingŠ

"I do a 6- 8 week yr 11 drama unit called cyber- theatre. Students work in
groups to create a character, they then create a profile for this character.
I am hoping to get EQ permission to use Ning Space. The students have to
create a number of video clips and upload these to their characters profile
page. Including video intro of character, news report, symbolic response in
either photo story / movie maker, and an improvised webcamed blogologue. In
the past the students have really loved this unit. I am going to have to
seek permission from EQ to allow students to access NING, ( I can set this
up as a private space that only the yr 11 drama students can access). Do you
have any idea how I would go about seeking this permission???"

If anyone has any ideas of either how to go about this or an alternative
could you let me know.

Cheers,
Jeff Smithard
