I don't agree here. When I work on some largish project (and would have
that as 'default session') but want to look at a small example from time
I would really dislike it if I had to wait for 15 seconds before the 
big project is loaded only to immediately switch to something else.

Note that you can give a session name on the command line. So if you
really always want to start a certain session, just create an alias
or script to run 'qtcreator YourSession'.
