Modern Linux distributives provides two sets of "desktop integration" components, one for GNOME and one for KDE with or without way to select "default" one. I had the same issue with OpenSUSE and resolve it by removing set of GNOME integration packages and setting up set of KDE integration packages. Can't say more, this is very Linux distributive specific question.
