Not as far as I'm aware; my understanding is the brightness is usually
controlled by a hardware device (something in /sys/class/backlight,
typically; there's a little program I wrote to control intel chipset
based backlights here: https://github.com/tych0/maclight). We
shouldn't touch any of those values, I wouldn't think.
