Answering OPs question: Yeah, I think this an GitHub are the primary 
sources for community/help. I try and be pretty active/helpful on here when 
people post. Personally, I left reddit after their API fiasco earlier this 
year. I'm not sure how much that applies to other people in the community 
though.

I can understand the sentiment, but you can "subscribe" to discussion 
notifications to get emails about them and even reply to them through 
email. So you never have to touch a browser to interact with GitHub 
discussions.
