narrow taper beginning toward the empennage, becoming relatively
smaller as it terminates at the vertical stabilizer. Standing on her
nose in a vertical dive, she looked like wine-bottle, hence “Jug.”
But legend has it that a German fighter pilot downed by a Thunderbolt
called it a “Juggernaut.” Those of us honored to fly and love her,
called her the “Jug,” for short, because it’s the first syllable in the word
“Juggernaut.” And “juggernaut” she was!!
