Hi Nicki,

I haven't had edema nearly as badly as you, however I have been fortunate enough to have my partner (massage therapist) do "lymphatic massage" on my legs every night and morning. Your PT may know what this is. It's actually very easy, it's a light stroking of the feet and legs, you stroke in the direction of the heart UP. It may seem like no big deal and how could it actually work? BUT I'm here to tell everyone that it has worked wonders for my edema. The lymphatic system is right under the derma, not deep like muscles and it is responsible for moving fluid through your system, poor blood circulation of course keeps that fluid from moving. I saw my podiatrist yesterday and told him about this massage, he said a friend is actually doing research on this very thing.

I don't know about the fluid leaking, but I don't believe lymphatic massage would cause harm to your legs. As long as whoever does it does LIGHT stroking, not even as much pressure as putting lotion on, but like brushing something off your skin.

Good Luck and let us know how you progress.
