Hi Stacy, They got this part completely wrong. (Of course ABC also gave F-911 great reviews, but never bothered to mention it when the 9/11 Commission disproved many of meatheads claims. So why not expect more biased reporting?)
" Democratic candidate John Kerry, a founding member of the VVA, is making his Vietnam experience a key part of his campaign, partly to highlight that President Bush avoided serving in Vietnam. In response, conservative groups are bringing out veterans to question Kerry's service." The group of Swiftboat Captains are Veterens who served with Kerry and sought out contributions to help get their side of Kerry's claims told. They want to know why Kerry had his service records sealed. They were not recruited by any conservative group. The White house even asked them to pull their commercials. But they are not campaigning FOR President Bush. They are Vietnam war veterans demanding that Kerry release his service records since it was he that while running for Commander and Cheif has based his abilities to lead on his performance there. As Vietnam Veterans it is within their rights to do so. (from) news max.com /archives/articles/2004/8/9/111054.shtml (edited for length) Mr. Kerry, You Asked for It Vincent Fiore Monday, Aug. 9, 2004 Vietnam veteran John ONeill, spokesman of the organization calling itself Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, released a devastating ad condemning Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry as being unable to lead, and further calling him dishonest, a betrayer to his shipmates and, most devastating of all, a liar regarding the commission of at least one of the Purple Hearts he received. The outrage that quivered off the lips of the Kerry campaign was, understandably, filled with anger and disbelief. (www.swiftvets.com/) Calling a special press conference in May at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., ONeill and 25 other veterans who served with Kerry put his campaign on notice with the release of this statement: "We resent very deeply the false war crimes charges he made coming back from Vietnam in 1971 and repeated in the book 'Tour of Duty.' We think those cast an aspersion on all those living and dead, from our unit and other units in Vietnam. We think that he knew he was lying when he made the charges, and we think that they're unsupportable. We intend to bring the truth about that to the American people. "We believe, based on our experience with him, that he is totally unfit to be the commander in chief." ....
