My answer may be not warranted but I was clueless one time abt symptoms I was having around 10 yrs post injury.

It really does "sound" like a hip problem so it may hurt in one area but you're getting phantom pain from it.  You said you had x-rays .. even an MRI.

Did they just MRI the hip area?  Why I ask is because I had chronic abdominal cramping & pain for 4 yrs with severe extensor spasms.  I knew something was wrong and had EVERY abdominal test done (ct, ultrasound, gi series, etc).
All negative

I then had ALOT of bladder stones removed.  Still no relief.

I finally had an MRI of my spine which showed a lengthy cyst in my cord (syringomyelia).  That was the ugly culprit.

I always tell people who have odd symptoms & no answers to eliminate the possibility of having SM.

Since the popping sound exacerbated the pain ... it sounds as though something THERE happened.  But, then again, I found out after 4 yrs of hell ... by transferring (getting lifted) into a truck passenger seat.  My right pupil dilated and I said "Enough!  Something is wrong!"  Apparently the transfer made the cyst move to cause my autonomic system to show itself via pupil dilation.

No pain from transferring ... and I didn't realize my pupil was dilated till my sister told me it was in broad daylight when we got to her house in the truck.

Ya never know...

i'm an incomplete c4-5 quad of 12 years. i started  experiencing right hip pain several years ago. i had x-rays, mri, bone scans, no answers. they even sent me to a pain psychiatrist. the pain has continued to come and go. the severity varies. it worsens when i have a uti oddly enough. the hip constantly feels sore and when i sit in the chair it feels out of place. my stability is off. yesterday while transferring from my bed to chair by hoyer lift i heard a loud popping sound and it hurts ever since. even when i'm laying flat. yet theres no signs of dislocation. my legs are straight and the same length. anyone else experience anything like this? can  your hips weaken/separate just from years of sitting?
