Welcome to
this list Paul! Yes, we could all write a book and more!
But your post
reminded me of something that I wanted to post here for a long time.
Essentially, a great majority of quads are on public assistance of some
sort. All of our situations differ greatly but I always wondered that
for those who can only have so much money
and so much assets [dictated by state or county or whatever] ... how
can they possibly afford a van? Especially with the prices these days!
And even if
they already have a van ... what about all the maintenance, the
insurance, and so many other factors? Not
to mention if someone had to get a new van?
The government
has it set up whereby "the system" has many of us to be practically
destitute but does not take into consideration things like vans, home
modifications, miscellaneous medical expenditures that are not covered
by Medicaid or Medi-Cal, etc., ...... just to scratch the surface!
It seems that
we all get by one way or another. But has anyone else ever thought of
it that way?

[QUAD-L] C5 Driving
Hi All,
I am a C5/6 complete quad.Fifteen years ago today I broke
my neck.I could write a book about my life as a quad,I'm sure many of
you could write a book also.I just keep on rolling.Due to a lawsuit I
received just enough money to buy a new mini-van with a ten inch drop
floor and a sliding door with a ramp.Division of Vocational Rehab payed
for the driving adaptions. The van gives me such a feeling
of freedom. The van and all the adaptions cost $50,000.If not for the
money from the lawsuit I would never be able to afford the van.I feel
bad for the many that are not able to afford such a van.I was thinking
that if I did not have that much money,I would try to buy a used van
without all the adaptions and use some fold up ramps to enter and exit.
Peace, Paul
